BUDDY FEATHERSTONHAUGH Candid Recording(s):
The Radio Rhythm Club Sextet(CYCD 74508)
Shortly after British Prime Minster Neville Chamberlain announced to the national that England was at war with Germany, numerous musicians found themselves in the Armed services deleting many of the country's bands and even forcing some to break up completely. However, out of this musical carnage many new and instrumentally innovative groups were formed within the services, such as the Buddy Feathernstonaugh Quintet and its front line of trombone and tenor sax doubling clarinet. With Vic Lewis on guitar and vocal, the band officially became His Majesty's Royal Air Force Bomber Command Sextet. They secured a few BBC broadcasts, began recording for ENSA and in June 1943, commenced a series of commercial recordings for EMI the bulk of which are included on the Candid album.
