Biography:
Richard Allen Ford was born in Boston , Mass on 4th March 1954. He studied at the New England Conservatory, made recordings with Gunther Schulleer and tutors Ran Blake and Jaki Byard before joining the Duke Ellington Band (led by Mercer). Subsequently, Ricky was with Mingus (1976-7) and Danny Richmond before playing with and writing for the Lionel Hampton Band.
In the eighties he toured with Mingus Dynasty and Abdullah Ibrahim and divided his time between his teaching residency at Brandeis University and his home in France. His playing and writing have both continued to mature into the nineties – his three titles on Candid being evidence of this.
